The Gladesville Hornsby Football Association will be launching an exciting new lunchtime soccer competition for local Macquarie Park businesses in 2019. Aimed at helping people get healthy and active whilst having fun, the competition will commence on 30 January and will run on Wednesdays at Christie Park.
GHFA General Manager, Mark Lockie said the competition provides the perfect team building opportunity for companies and to improve productivity with their staff. “Research shows conclusively that physical activity during the working day provides a release from stress and a team sport enables colleagues and friends to socialise in a fun and enjoyable environment,” he said.
Companies have recognised for long time that a workplace health and wellness programme has benefits for both staff and the employer. The benefits of a healthy and fit workforce for employers include reduced absenteeism and employee turnover; lower stress among staff; enhanced productivity and efficiency; an improved corporate image; and better relations between management and staff.
Christie Park provides a perfect venue for the competition, with the recently completed FIFA accredited synthetic fields providing perfect playing conditions and never experiencing wash outs. GHFA runs a winter competition on weekends for over 13,000 players, so the lunchtime competitions will be professionally run, using the latest competition management systems and fully qualified referees.
“We are providing competitions for men’s and mixed teams and we play six-a-side on small fields and cater for all ability levels,” said Mr Lockie. “GHFA launched a summer football competition this year at Christie Park using the same competition format, and it has been very popular with over 580 players participating in its first year.”
Four competitions will run in 2019, each over a 10-week period. The summer competition commences 30 January and entries are now being accepted. Further competitions commence in May, July and October.
